2022 PRSA Communications Symposium

Join us for PRSA Charlotte's Annual Communications Symposium on Wednesday, April 27! This half-day virtual event is filled with dynamic programming that will enable you to bring new ideas, strategies, and perspectives to your teams and clients.

At this year's symposium, we're excited to welcome two award-winning communications professionals as our keynote speakers to present on the timely and impactful topics of crisis management and communicating with heart. Register here!

David Grossman, ABC, APR, and Fellow PRSA is the Founder and CEO of The Grossman Group, an award-winning Chicago-based communications consultancy focused on organizational consulting, strategic leadership development, and internal communications. Grossman provides expert commentary and analysis on how leaders and companies can build trust and keep employees engaged through crisis and change, communicating with remote teams, and more. Grossman is a four-time author and recently published "Heart First: Lasting Leader Lessons from a Year that Changed Everything." He's been featured on NBC Nightly News, CBS MoneyWatch, in Forbes, the Chicago Tribune, World Economic Forum, and the LA Times.

In addition to our keynote presentations, we also have many exciting breakout sessions from an impressive lineup of communications leaders. Continue reading here for more information.
President's Message

The temperature is climbing, days are getting longer, and spring is right around the corner! I'm sure we're all looking forward to the return of sunshine and warmer weather, as well as new ways to share our challenges and celebrate our wins together.

The PRSA Charlotte 2022 Board of Directors is hard at work planning great events and experiences for our members and that includes determining when we can return to in-person meetings. We're balancing the benefits of face-to-face collaboration and idea sharing with health and safety concerns, and hope the current downward trend in COVID-19 numbers continue.

In the meantime, I encourage each of our members to get involved with PRSA Charlotte, and our committees are a great way to start. I'm including our committee information here, including our chairs, their contact information and when their next meetings are taking place, if meetings are scheduled. Please reach out with any questions and consider joining their next meeting to learn more about their work and how your time and talent could support their mission.

The Civil Rights Movement and #BlackLivesMatter: The Evolution of a Movement - Part 2
By Cheron Porter, MA, APR

Photojournalists' work chronicling the #BlackLivesMatter rallies and uprisings are eerily similar to the depictions of the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Whether it was 1961 or 2021, the images we have all seen capture the unrelenting fortitude that ignites rallying cries against injustice around the world. These vivid impressions humanize the power and pain of a community demanding to be seen and respected by their country. Yet, there is a difference. #BlackLivesMatter is the irrefutable scion of the Civil Rights Movement, but what have the brazen descendants learned from their venerable elders? Six decades later, what's changed? What qualities have they embraced? And how have they evolved? Read more here.
