From storytelling to public affairs, community engagement to marketing and creative services, web services to video production, the City of Charlotte's Communication and Marketing's (CC&M) professional, talented team members provide a multitude of ways to share effective messaging across a variety of communications channels. The CC&M Team is looking for a Senior Public Relations (PR) Specialist to join a fast-paced team and work across our channels to provide communication strategies and execute on complex plans for city departments, events and special projects. Responsibilities include: • Work with the PR team to lead communication strategies and plans from ideation to execution • Collaborate with CC&M team members across each of our channels (i.e. media, Council support, digital, broadcast, creative services) on campaigns • Lead citywide events from planning stages to production and follow-up • Produce written content around storytelling opportunities • Keep on track using strong project management tactics and follow through with various stakeholders • Ensure consistency in branding, formatting and overall look and feel as outlined in city style guides • Help maintain a standard of excellence for work products and the team’s reputation across the city Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Proven track record of leading complex communication strategies/campaigns • Strong relationship builder who can work across various stakeholders and build consensus on a common goal • Ability to juggle multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment with minimal oversight • Critical thinker who can ramp up quickly to working in local government • Interest in current events/politics/government • Strong communication acumen and attention to detail • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in public relations, marketing, communication, or related field with three to five years of relevant work experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential job duties. Minimum QualificationsHigh school graduate or equivalent and seven years relevant experience.
