Lead Communications Consultant - Executive Support

The Lead Communications Consultant - Executive Support provides writing and communications support to Duke Energy executive leaders to advance the company’s business objectives.

 

This includes: writing speeches and developing associated briefing materials; writing employee and business communications; planning and preparing for external and internal speaking engagements; plan and support internal leadership meetings and conferences. 

 

The position requires in-depth communications knowledge and experience, and the ability to coordinate complex communications. Requires the ability to work both independently and in a team environment, including direct and frequent interactions with senior executives. Requires managing multiple high-profile, high-priority projects concurrently and adapting quickly to changes in priorities and schedules. Also requires supporting the emergency communications function within the Corporate Communications Department
 

Responsibilities

  • Develop communications plans and approaches for executive leaders
  • Work with executives and support staffs to execute plans
  • Provide communications counsel and prepare speeches, talking points, briefing materials, letters and other communications for executive leaders
  • Plan and support internal leadership meetings and conferences
  • Participate in emergency event drills and training, and support emergency/response efforts as needed

Qualifications

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in communications, journalism or a related field (such as marketing, political science, public relations)
  • Six (6) to eight (8) years of experience in communications, public affairs, journalism or a related field
  • Experience in coordinating high-profile communications on complex issues
  • Experience in creating strategic communications plans
  • Experience in providing communications support and counsel to senior executives or public officials

 

Desired Qualifications

  • 8-10 years of experience in communications 
  • Experience in drafting speeches and other communications for corporate executives
  • Excellent relationship management skills and ability to manage/integrate with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in counseling executives about speaking engagements and media interviews
  • Highly flexible and adaptable 
  • Excellent collaboration skills
  • Experience in electric utility industry or other highly regulated, high-profile industry
  • Experience in leading complex, high-profile communications projects

  • Ability to rapidly respond to immediate communications needs and issues
