Director of Communications
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Marketingand Patron Experience

TheCharlotte Symphony Orchestra (CSO) seeks a talented, results-oriented Directorof Communications to steward public relations, publications and strategiccommunity partnerships that support the CSO’s visibility and impact in thecommunity.
The Director of Communications is a critical member of theCSO team and isresponsible for broad external and internal communications planning andexecution.
S/he works across departments to create and implement communicationsplans that support growth and thestrategic goals of the institution.
S/he will manage communication activities that promote,enhance and develop the CSO brand, telling the story of the CSO both onstageand off, with a particular emphasis on the Symphony’s unique assets to addressboth challenges and opportunities in Charlotte.
The successful candidate will have three-five years of related work experience. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated record of advancing an organization’s brand message through strategic and mission-aligned public relations, community partnerships and visibility efforts.
Excellent writing, editing, proofreading ability and a deep knowledge of the changing media landscape required. Creative, strategic storyteller with knowledge of the nonprofit arts sector, and an understanding of, or a genuine passion for, orchestral music a must.
Ability to work with people of a wide variety of ages, abilities, and cultural backgrounds is essential. An understanding of and connection to the diverse communities of Charlotte is desirable.
S/he will be able to handle multiple deadlines, manage competing priorities, and work effectively under pressure. A college degree is required. Degree in Communications and/or experience with journalism, highly desirable.
