Position Status: Full-Time/Twelve Month Position

The Digital Communications Specialist tells the story of Providence Day School– its students, innovative programs, and community connections—through the written word and with today’s multimedia tools to ensure that the website, social media, and other venues come alive with engaging writing, photographs, videos, and other media. The Digital Communications Specialist has a broad familiarity with a variety of communications technologies, a reporter’s instinct to find the stories that capture a community’s attention, and the organizational and strategic skills to prioritize and support the school’s comprehensive marketing and communication plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  1. Working with departments to produces content for the website, social media, and other venues, using the best tools for the given context: writing, video, audio, photography, and/or graphic design.
  2. Assists the Executive Director of Strategic Marketing and Communication in evaluating the effectiveness of communication strategies including regular analytic reporting on reach, engagement and audience demographics.
  3. Create and execute a comprehensive strategy to expand Providence Day School’s social media presence, ensuring that social media activities are fully integrated with other communications efforts at PDS, including traditional media, public relations, marketing, and advertising.
  4. Drawing from other PDS departments and internal teams, oversee the planning, creation, and publication of content and campaigns across social media platforms, as well as the day-to-day management of the School’s social media channels, including, but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr.
  5. Offer social media guidance, recommendations and training to PDS staff and faculty, as appropriate; report on social media metrics and analysis regularly, including numbers, most popular posts and tweets, and interactions; and monitor and incorporate emerging trends and best practices in social media.
  6. Perform all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education, Experience and Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, English or equivalent.
  2. Experience in school or other public relations, media relations, or communications.
  3. Experience with social media, videography, photography, and graphic design tools.
  4. Valid Driver’s license and good driving record.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong management skills and organization skills, with the ability to plan and oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  2. Strong writing skills required.
  3. Ability to work independently and efficiently, including the ability to research and gather information from varied sources
  4. Working knowledge and proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (or equivalent) and Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  5. Ability to use content management systems such as Blackboard Communicate and Finalsite Composer.
  6. Ability to communicate effectively; possess excellent oral and written communication skills (grammar, spelling, etc).
  7. Ability to perform at a high level, as a team player, in a team environment.
  8. Strong videography, photography, editing and graphic design skills.
  9. Ability to relate well to diverse groups of people.
  10. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  11. Ability to remain calm and professional in an environment with shifting priorities.
