CHARLOTTE, September 23, 2016 /PRSA Charlotte/ -- PRSA Charlotte is pleased to announce the winners of its prestigious Infinity and Pegasus Awards for 2016. The honorees will be recognized and presented with their awards at PRSA Charlotte’s Annual Queen City PR (QCPR) Awards Gala on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Byron’s South End in Charlotte.
The 2016 Infinity Award will honor Dr. Alan R. Freitag, Professor, Department of Communication Studies, UNC Charlotte. The Infinity Award honors a public relations professional whose character, career and service represent the highest standards and who excels in the practice of public relations and/or has accomplished an outstanding one-time achievement. Recipients have dedicated their careers to the practice of public relations, have achieved substantial success in their professional work and represent the highest standards of ethical conduct in the practice of public relations. PRSA Charlotte will acknowledge the outstanding contributions Dr. Freitag has made over the years to his students, fellow faculty members, the public relations profession, the national PRSA organization and to our PRSA chapter.
The 2016 Pegasus Award will be presented to Kay Carter, CEO, Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. It is given to a respected leader who has made significant contributions to the betterment of the community, enhancing its reputation and prestige through the effective use of exceptional communication and public relations practices. Carter will be recognized for her successful leadership of the organization which is providing food to more than 700 non-profit agencies serving the hungry in a 19-county region of North and South Carolina, and for her ability to leverage various public relations initiatives to raise awareness of this important issue in the greater Charlotte community. From press conferences to special events (almost monthly) to children's mobile pantries to the recent groundbreaking of their new warehouse, there's rarely a month (or week) that goes by where the work at Second Harvest isn’t noted by the media.
"PRSA Charlotte takes tremendous pride in honoring Charlotte’s outstanding public relations professionals and leaders in our community annually with our Infinity Award and our Pegasus Award," said Christy Phillips-Brown, chapter president. "Dr. Alan Freitag and Kay Carter are not only successful professionals, but as citizens of the Queen City, they are significantly contributing and impacting our community in immeasurably positive ways."
